Lucinda was the second child and second daughter born to Archibald & Mary (Grannis) Adams.

She married Andrew J Grover on 20 Feb 1847 at Rock Island, ILL and on 25 Nov 1847 their daughter Helen E(meretta) “Retta” Grover was born in Lyndon. By 29 Sep 1850, Lucinda and her 2 year old daughter were living with the family of Lucinda’s older sister, Eliza and husband George Goltman, in Mount Carroll, Carrol Co, ILL, about 60 miles n/e of Rock Island, and closer to her sister Rachel & husband John Roberts in Lyndon, Whiteside Co, ILL.

The records show that her husband A J Grover had gone west with her brother Samuel Adams as they both show up in the 3 Feb 1850 Census at the South Fork of the American River in El Dorado, CA; Andrew with an occupation of physician and Samuel Adams as a miner. This was the time of the ’49 Gold Rush.

Andrew J Grover returned by 1853 as the Civil War Pension file for Lucinda’s father, Archibald Adams, contains an affidavit signed by Eliza (Adams) Goltman that A J Grover attended to the birth of Lucinda and Eliza’s baby brother Silas Franklin on 27 Dec 1853 in Lyndon, Whiteside Co, ILL.

Lucinda (Adams) Grover died 1 Jan 1858 according to the Adams Family Bible. Andrew J Grover married soon thereafter, as his 2nd wife, Olivia W Hazard on 3 May 1858 at Whiteside, Ill. Lucinda’s brother Samuel Adams also returned about this time as he married his 1st wife Amanda Copeland on 16 Jun 1859 at Cass Co, Missouri.

According to the 3 Jul 1860 Census for Rock Island, ILL Andrew J Grover is shown residing with his 2nd wife Olivia, his daughter Emma (Emeretta) from his first marriage, now 12 years of age, and her 1 year old half-sister Nina Adline from his 2nd marriage. Andrew’s widowed mother, Betsey Grover, age 74, was also living with them. By 21 Jan 1868, A J & Lucinda's daughter "Retta" Grover married Edgar Deforest Folsom in Rock Island, ILL.

It would appear that this family lifestyle did not appeal to A J Grover as by 1873 he went west again evidenced by an advertisement in Reno of his physician services there. Additionally, the above referenced 1875 Affidavit of Eliza (Adams) Goltman states that “A J Grover has now removed to parts unknown”. Dr A J Grover died in Reno, Nevada on 14 Oct 1876; his 2nd wife Olivia remained a widow in Rock Island, ILL where she died 14 Oct 1922.
