Hattie Mae Soules, d/o Connie Jarrett Soules and Ora Alice Belle Potter, met her future husband Carson Oliver while he was driving "a topless car (a convertible)." The tall good-looking young man was wearing "a cap with the bill turned up." He must have made a great impression on her for on October, 5, 1935, Hattie Mae Soules, age 24, and Carson Viron Oliver, age 25, were married at the home of Reverend O. T. Wheeler in Pleasant Grove, Dallas County, Texas. The announcement of their marriage in an unknown newspaper follows:

Young Mesquite Couple Married On Saturday
Carson V. Oliver of Dallas and Miss Hattie Mae Soules of Mesquite were united in marriage last Saturday evening by The Rev. O. T. Wheeler, pastor Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. / The ceremony was performed at the home of Rev. and Mrs. O. T. Wheeler at Pleasant Grove. / The couple were accompanied by a group of close friends. Jimmie Soules of Tyler, brother of the bride, was best man and Miss Dollie Jones of Dallas was maid of honor. Other guests included Luther Oliver, the brother of groom, of Tyler and Charles Flanders, Miss Dorothy Cade and Miss Ida Nan Flanders, all of Dallas. / The bride and groom are well known in and around Mesquite and the parents of both live here. / Mr. Oliver recently purchased the Community Barber Shop at Pleasant Grove, which he will operate along with his position with the T. & P. Railroad at Dallas. / They will reside at Pleasant Grove. We offer congratulations and wish for them a long life of happiness together.

Funeral Services Held Thursday For Carson V. Oliver
Services were held at the McCullough Chapel Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock for Carson Viron Oliver, 33, who passed away in a Dallas hospital the day before, following a long illness. Services were conducted by Rev. John Perry King, the pastor of the Mesquite Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. R. E. Bass of Fort Worth, a friend of long standing and by Rev. R. B. Cooper of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and the former pastor of Mr. and Mrs. Carson V. Oliver. Interment was in the Mesquite Cemetery. The A. C. Garrett Masonic Lodge of Dallas conducted a service at the grave. G. S. Hawthorne of Toyah, a special friend of the deceased, took part in the Masonic service. / Born at Prichett, near Gilmer, Upshur County, Texas, on August 4, 1910, he graduated from Union Hill High School in 1929, and soon after his graduation went to Dallas and was employed in the shops of the Texas & Pacific Railway Company. He gave up that work and for a period followed the profession of a barber but returned to the employ of the railway company and in 1935 he was sent to Marshall as a car inspector and in 1940 was transferred to Toyah in the same capacity and continued there until his last illness. / On October 1935, he was married to Miss Hattie Mae Soules, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Connie J. Soules of Mesquite. / Surviving him are his wife and daughter, Alice Elaine; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmond L. Oliver of Zipp City; five brothers, Lewis Oliver of Pleasant Grove, Bernard Oliver of San Antonio, Clayton Oliver of Mesquite, Luther Oliver of Fort Worth and Clyde Oliver of Scyene; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Bibb and Mrs. Oma Baker, both of Dallas. / Though his work in Dallas, Marshall and Toyah kept him from enjoying a wide acquaintance in this community, Carson Oliver was known to a number of people of this section and held in high esteem.
