Funeral services for Jesse Thomas Powell, 90, were held Friday, January 10, at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church with church pastor, Rev. George Price, Jr., officiating.
Mr. Powell died January 7 about 8:10 p.m. in the Heritage Convalescent Center, Amarillo. Born October 10, 1895 in Arkansas, he married the former Ruthie Jackson in Texico on August 26, 1920. He had resided in Dickens County since 1919. He was a farmer and a barber. A member of the VFW, he was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruthie Powell, Spur; one son, Jesse Joe Powell, Spur; two daughters, Marie Bingham, Spur and Sue Condron, Albuquerque, NM; one sister, Cordie Smith, Alton; one son, Jackson Lee Powell preceded him in death February 18, 1978; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.
Grandsons served as pallbearers. Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
