Hazel M. Gates, age 93, of 1020 S. 12th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday morning, June 1, 1997, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Carl Meulemans with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born February 22, 1904, in the town of Manitowoc Rapids, daughter of the late Nick and Flora Coutley Bauer. On October 28, 1924, she married Joseph F. Gates at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Alverno. He preceded her in death March 8, 1991.
Survivors include three nieces, Shirley and Leo Petroski, Manitowoc, Eunice and Robert Gaedtke, Kiel, Jeanette and Reinard Holschbach, Whitelaw; three grand-nieces, Chery Franz, Mary Jo Brixius, Susan Pitroski; four grand-nephews, Rick Pitroski, Michael Pitroski, William Pitroski and James Pitroski; one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law, George and Bernice Gates, Two Rivers, Cecilia Pleuss, Two Rivers, Laura Gates, Manitowoc. Also surviving are other grand-nieces, grand-nephews, relatives and friends. Shew as preceded in death by two sisters, Leilah Czekala, Dora Fessler; one brother, Bernard Bauer; and a nephew, Kenneth Czekala.
Friends may call at St. Boniface Catholic Church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service at 10 a.m.
There will be no Monday evening visitation.
Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Our great aunt Hazel was the grandmother we never had. We loved her and will miss her dearly.
