She was the oldest child of Moses Sanborn and Betsy Stevens, and educated at the Adams Female Academy in Kingston. Wife of Samuel H. Stevens, she grew up on the 83 acre farm owned by her father, Moses Sanborn, who was a tanner and farmer. She had at least 2 younger sisters, Arolina E., born 1825, and Alcina Eveline, born 1827 plus a brother, Edward, born 1819.

Seraphina had one child, Elizabeth Seraphina, born 1844.
