Funeral service for Mrs. Sara Askins Barnes, age 95, of Fayetteville, TN, conducted Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Alan Shedd and Bro. Thomas Smith officiating. Burial next to her husband, John D. Barnes, in Barnes Cemetery. Mrs. Barnes passed away on December 29, 2017 at Donalson Care Center.

Mrs. Barnes was born in the Harms Community in Lincoln County, TN to the late Joseph Elgie and Tennie Sue Ables Askins. She retired from Jonathan Logan and was a member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church. She was active in homemaking, the Historical and Genealogical Societies, Home Extension and Farm Bureau.

Survivors include her nieces, Lynda Smith Galbreath of Goodletsville, TN and Marilynn Smith Newman of Fayetteville, TN; nephew, LeBrone Wotring of Elizabethtown, KY; and numerous great-nephews and nieces.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy A. Smith of Fayetteville, TN and Mildred Wotring of Acworth, GA.

Visitation with the family held Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Higgins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beech Grove United Methodist Church at 161 Hughey Rd, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or American Macular Degeneration Foundation at PO Box 515 Northampton, MA 01061-0515.
