Thomas Cooper "Coop" Aldred was the seventh of ten children born to Thomas Jefferson and Hannah Bonsall (Fisher) Aldred. During the Civil War, Coop enlisted in the Union Army with Company A 3rd Regiment, Delaware Volunteers and became a 2nd Lieutenant. This is the same company in which his oldest brother, William R. Aldred, was a 1st Lieutenant.After becoming wounded, Thomas Cooper Aldred was honorably discharged. At Grove Methodist Church he married Elizabeth Boyer, daughter of Riter and Hannah (Swope) Boyer. They were the parents of nine children: Helen A. Aldred, who died in 1897 while she was engaged to be married; Thomas Henderson Aldred; Charles Boyer Aldred; Lydia McClees Aldred; Henry Buckwalter Aldred; Martha Ferguson Aldred; Mary Boyer Aldred; DeWitt Clinton Scott Aldred; and Edward Boyer Aldred.
Thomas Cooper Aldred died in Philadelphia. He was predeceased by his wife, who died in 1912.
