Reverend Torey Fountain will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Barbara Carolyn Ashley was born on October 14, 1943, in Laurens County, Georgia, to the late Bertha Ringwood and Zebbie D. Robertson. Mrs. Ashley received her education in Laurens County and attended Oconee High School. After high school she met and married Marshall Lee Ashley, Sr. To this union were born five children, Carolyn D. Wilson, Marshall L. Ashley Jr., Cheryl D. Ashley, Kelvin T. Ashley and Daphne Ashley. She was employed at Oxford in Dublin for over 14 years. Mrs. Ashley gave her life to Christ and joined Kingsview Christian Center under the late presiding Pastor Willie C. Edmond. She served as an usher and was a member of the choir. You could always hear her singing as she went about her daily routines. She loved the Lord and was a praying woman. She was always encouraging others to trust in the Lord and to keep the faith. She would always say “read the 91 Psalms” as this was one of her favorites. Mrs. Ashley was a classy, well dressed, lady who believed in taking all the time she needed to dress before leaving home. She enjoyed walks and occasional lunch outings with her neighbor in her “little red Cadillac”. She also enjoyed visiting her sisters and brother as long as she could return home before it became dark. She was not one for many words, yet she was quite capable of getting her point across. Mrs. Ashley relocated to Detroit, Michigan, in 1986 with her youngest daughter. She remained in Detroit for over 20 years until she retired from Bortz Health Care. After retirement she decided to return to Dublin. There she remained until her health started to decline. She returned to Detroit to be cared for by her children and by her brother until she transitioned from this life on July 15, 2019 in Warren, Michigan.
Mrs. Ashley was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Ashley, her parents, her three children, Carolyn D. Wilson, Marshall L. Ashley Jr., Cheryl D. Ashley, and by her sibling, Betty Howard.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children, daughter, Daphne Ashley, and son, Kelvin T. Ashley, both of Detroit, Michigan, grandchildren Antonio (Yasmeene) Marion of Byron, Georgia, Quentin Ashley of Grand Rapids Michigan, Monica Ashley of Columbia, South Carolina, Trailshunn Burch of Macon, Georgia, Travon DeShazer, Tyrone DeShazer, III, Brianna Ashley, Britney Ashley, Deandre Ashley, Nadjai Ridley, Kelvin Ashley Jr, Karell Ashley, all of Detroit, Michigan, Shameka Butler-Roberson, Shenia Ashley, Latia (Chris) Martin, LaToria Ashley, all of Dublin, Georgia, siblings, James (Sandy) Brown of Atlanta, Georgia, Iva (Willie) Wheeler of Los Angeles, California, Edward (Sharole) Robertson of Detroit, Michigan, Wilful Jean Davis, Bonnie Washington, Donald (Shirley) Ringwood, all of Dublin, Georgia, aunt, Maggie Maddox of Dublin, Georgia, , great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family is receiving friends on Friday, July 26, 6-7 PM, at the Dudley Funeral Home.
