Grace A. Shea 83

Grace A. Shea died at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, VT on Monday, July 25, as a result of a massive stroke.

She was born on Jan. 4, 1917, and was the daughter of James and Grace A. Obrey Shea.

Grace graduated from Lake Placid High School and the Pratt Institute of Decorating in New York City. She worked as a decorator and buyer at B. Altman & Co. in New York City.

She returned to Lake Placid as a partner in Shea's Market Inc. until its closing in 1974. She was then owner of the Mirror Lake Liquor Store until 1988. She continued to practice home decorating until 1999, when failing health forced her retirement.

Grace served on the advisory boards for Ulhein Mercy Center and the Lake Placid Hospital and was a member of St. Agnes Church.

She is survived by three brothers, Edmund of Ogdensburg, Eugene of St. Petersburg, FL, and jack Shea of Lake Placid; three nephews, James E. Shea Sr. and Michael Shea of Lake Placid; and Jack Shea Jr Chicago, IL; and several great-nieces and nephews and great-great grand nieces and nephews locally and throughout the country.

There are not calling hours. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 27, at 11 am qt St. Agnes Church.

Donations in Grace's memory may be made to Ulhein Mercy Center, 420 Old Military Road, Lake Placid, NY 12946. The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.
