Archie was the son of William Daniel and Lucy Paul Oxendine. He married Peggy Oxendine.

On Oct. 2, 1877, Archie and Peggy Oxendine were among the twenty charter members of Burnt Swamp Baptist church. The church's original location was in the Union Chapel Community in Burnt Swamp Township on land Archie Oxendine donated. The old Burnt Swamp Baptist Church was approximately three miles from its present location and remained there from 1877 until 1902. Today, the remains of several leaders of this early church are located in a cemetery to the rear of the original church site (Oxendine Cemetery on Oak Grove Church Rd. in Lumberton, NC).

In January 1881, Burnt Swamp, Reedy Branch, and Magnolia Baptist churches organized the Burnt Swamp Association.
