Amboy, May 29 – Alfred Esta, aged 97 years, died at his home in North Constantia last Sunday morning from a severe attack of bronchitis. Funeral occurred at Gayville, Tuesday, May 23, at 2 p.m. Burial at Constantia. In spite his advanced age he enlisted in the War of the Rebellion and did good service. Deceased was well and favorably known. He is survived by many sons and daughters.

     Alfred Augustus Este enlisted in Company I, 81st New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment September 5, 1862 in Rome, New York. He lied about his age, stating that he was 44, rather than 60. He mustered into the service on September 23, 1862. Alfred transferred out of Company I and into the the Veteran Reserve Corps on November 23, 1864. He was discharged on February 24, 1865 by reason of disability.
