Reverend Alvin R. Scott was born on March 22, 1931 in Jacksonville, Texas to Tyree and Mallie Scott.

He attended elementary and high school in Jacksonville, Texas. He earned a B.S. degree and a Master's degree from Prairie View A & M University in Prairie View, Texas.

Reverend Scott went on to earn a Doctorate of Philosophy in Biblical Studies at Aspen Theological College in Denver, Colorado.

Alvin was joined in marriage to Erie M. Phillips on January 3, 1958.

He had four children.
Alvin served for three years in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant. He worked for 29 years for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring from there as a Regional Instructor, having taught in 13 western States.

Reverend Scott was a member of Cleaves Memorial C.M.E. Church for many years and served in various capacities, including Superintendent of Sunday Schools.

On July 12, 1987, he was appointed pastor of St. Luke C.M.E. Church in Denver, Colorado by Presiding Bishop Dotcy I. Isom, Jr.

During Reverend Scott's 18-year tenure at St. Luke, there were many major changes at the church, both spiritually and physically.

After retiring from St. Luke, Reverend Scott was appointed Special Assistant to Bishop Paul A. G. Stewart.
