Funeral services for Mr. Edwin James Yowell Sr. "Ed", of Asheboro, N.C., will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 7, 2007, at St. Johns Episcopal Church, Minden. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Methodist Church Cemetery. Family and friends will gather nearby at Wren Woods and Butler Creek Farms on Lewisville Road.

Mr. Yowell was born on November 15 in Nashville, Tenn., and died Thursday, May 17, at Randolph County Hospital in N.C.

After being part of the Great Depression, Ed set his sights on a career in Sales and Marketing serving the Apparel Sector of the American Textile Industry. He served in management positions for several major corporations retiring in 1996 after more than 60 years of professional sales. He was also a World War II veteran serving five years in the United States Army Air Force as an aerial gunner on a B-17 bomber.

During his time in the service he met and married Elizabeth Wren of Minden. After their honorable discharge they moved several times as his job required. While living in New York, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Susanya. Six years later Ed and Elizabeth became the parents of a son, Edwin J. Yowell Jr.

In 1955 disaster struck with Elizabeth being diagnosed with Leukemia. She raised her two children and valiantly fought this disease for 20 years finally passing away August 12, 1974.

He continued working in the textile industry in the Carolinas until he was nearly 80. At that point he and his second wife, Estelle, lived a peaceful and happy life together in Asheboro until his passing.

He is preceded in death by his father, Joel E. Yowell; mother, Katherine C. Yowell; two brothers; one sister; and his first wife, the mother of his children, Elizabeth Wren Yowell.

He is survived by his children, Susanya Schuett of Durham, N.C., Edwin James Yowell Jr. of Dallas, Texas, and a sister Jeanette Durrance of Tampa, Fla.; and his wife of 28 years, Estelle R. Yowell of Asheboro.

Pallbearers will be Lovic Wren, Spence Wren, Stewart Wren, Jason Yowell, Bennie Wood and Keith Craig.
