ROBERT RUSSELL ROOT, RET. LT. COL. was born on July 8, 1917, in Niles, Ohio, to Calvin Newell Root and Grace Mae Van Wye Root. On June 27, 1953, Robert married Ruby Lee Coston in Fort Polk, Louisiana. He served his country with 31 years in the US Army and 14 years with the US Postal Service. He volunteered his time working with Boy Scouting in the Mustang District of the Sam Houston Area Council where he served as district commissioner. He is survived by his sisters Martha Wall and Audrey Ames; sons, Russell Root and Rob Root; daughters, Doris Sloan, Gloria Waldeck and Sally Kinsey; twelve grandchildren; six great grand children and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Lee Coston Root; his parents; his three brothers and a sister. Visitation will be held from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, in Katy.
