James Shaw Evans, 20, of Humboldt, died Monday, April 21, 1997.

Mr. Evans was born July 4, 1976, at Fort Scott, to Joe and Margaret A. Shaw Evans.

He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1994, and had attended Fort Scott Community College and Allen County Community College. He was studying at Neosho County Community College at Chanute. He was a member of the Panthers Basketball Team for NCCC.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Joe and Mary Evans of Humboldt; his mother, Margaret A. Oliver of Walnut; three brothers, Michael Joseph Evans, Jr., of Walnut and Jeremiah Coykendall and Joshua Coykendall; both of Humboldt; maternal grandparents, Fred and Margaret Shaw of Liberal, Missouri; and maternal great-grandmother, Roberta Shaw of Liberal, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Willard A. and Ruth Nevella Evans.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Humboldt, with Fr. Michael Maybrier as celebrant. Burial will be 2 p.m. today at Garden of Memories Cemetery, north of Pittsburg. Arrangements are under direction of the Kunkel Funeral Chapel, Inc. of Humboldt.
