Mrs. Hawkes Succumbs At Caldwell
Mrs. Anne Hawkes, prominent Boise clubwoman and long active in artistic circles, died Monday in a Caldwell hospital at the age of 81, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Hawkes was a charter member of the Boise Little Theater and shared the lead with Mrs. Vernon H. Tregaskis in the group's first production, "Arsenic and Old Lace."
She was an active and later an honorary member of the Columbian Club and the Tuesday Musicale.
Mrs. Hawkes was a charter member of the Boise Art Association and was an active member of the Ada County Republican Women's Club few several years.
For a number of years she operated a costume rental service at her home, 107 West Jefferson Street, and was known throughout the area for her collections of dolls, glassware, valentines and other objects d'art.
Mrs. Hawkes was born in Swans Island, Maine, and was educated in Boston. She accompanied her family to Vancouver, B. C., as a young woman and married John T. Hawkes there. The couple came to Boise More than 40 years ago.
Mr. Hawkes, a former Mechanical superintendent at The Statesman, died in 1956. A daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Williams, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Suzanne, in Tokyo, Japan; and a grandson, John Williams, a student at the College of Idaho.
Services will be announced by Relyea Chapel.
