US Congressman. He was engaged in the agricultural business when appointed member of the colonial assembly, serving from 1770 to 1774. In 1791 he was elected as a Pro-Administration candidate to the Second Congress, serving until 1793. He was the first Jewish member to take office in the US Congress. After his term, he resumed agricultural pursuits until his death.
