Roy L. "Hack" Novak, age 83, of 3020 Menasha Ave., Manitowoc, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at North Ridge Medical & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, after a battle with cancer.


He was born Oct. 31, 1922, near Luxemburg, son of the late Frank and Ella (Bucholz) Novak. Hack was raised and educated in Algoma, where he lived until he met the love of his life: Ardith M. Temme of Manitowoc. They were married on April 25, 1951. Hack was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. During his lifetime, he was a welder in three different shipyards. He also was the truck sales manager for Erdman Motor Company for 18 years. The couple also owned and operated The Lakeview Tavern and currently Novak's Golf Shop of Manitowoc. He was a member of Fraternal Brothers of Eagles 327, Manitowoc Elks, American Legion Drew Bleser Post 88, and was an active member on many committees. His favorite pastime was playing golf with his wife, children and buddies at the Elk's Course.


Survivors include his wife: Ardith Novak, Manitowoc; his children and their spouses: Linda Menar, Ephraim; Scott and Debbie Novak, Algonquin, Ill.; Barry and Kori Novak, Manitowoc; Gregory and Mary Novak, Manitowoc; Alex Novak and his girlfriend, Jacke, Crystal, Minn.: six grandchildren; one great-grand-son; a brother and sister-in-law: Robert and Dottie Novak, Algoma: a sister: Tottie Romdenne, Algoma; three brothers-in-law: Donald Temme, Naples, Fla.: Roger and Arlo Temme, Manitowoc: Gene (Butch) Temme, Manitowoc; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Dorothy and Fritz Voss, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by a one sister and two brothers-in-law: Pearl and Cliff Delorit and Vince Romdenne.


A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at 11 a.m. at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc. Officiating at the memorial service will be the Rev. James Vanden Hogen with entombment of the cremated remains at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth, at a later date.


The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.


A special thank you to all the staff at North Ridge for the care they extended to Roy. Also, thanks to all the hospice nurses and care givers for their compassion and caring for my husband. It was greatly appreciated. Thanks again. God bless you all.
