She served in the US Coast Guard in WWII, and later was employed as a bookkeeper at the Birmingham News. Emily was also a skilled seamstress.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Howard Milner, and her sisters Clara Elizabeth Bailey and Virginia Roberta Beck. She is survived by her daughter, Joan L. James (Ken D. Seamon), nieces: Virginia D. Beck, Penelope A. Beck-Herrero, and nephews: Preston R. Beck and John Charles Bailey.
