Nora Pauline Howatt Lee

Nora Pauline Howatt Lee passed away on March 27, 2017, at St. John’s Rimveiw Square in Billings.

Pauline was born on June 21, 1923, in Seymour, Iowa, to Wayne and Abigail Harris. After graduating from high school, Pauline moved to Des Moines, Iowa, on the eve of WWII, where she worked to support herself and her beloved first daughter, Nicolene.

Matchmaking family members from Montana soon intervened and encouraged Pauline to take the Northern Pacific Railway out to Billings to meet their boarder, a dashing young man named Roy Howatt. After a letter-filled, long-distance romance, Pauline and Nicolene packed up and headed west to begin a new life in the Big Sky Country, filled with dancing, picnics, Sunday drives, and two more beloved daughters, Norene and Nadine.

Roy passed away in 1978, and after a long period of grieving, Pauline was ready for new adventures. She met and married Lendal R. Lee, and from their home base in Clipper Mills, California, they traveled the country from coast to coast as long-haul truckers. After tiring of the open road, Pauline and Lendal chose to return to Worden, where Pauline managed the finances of their new sawmill business.

After Lendal’s death in 2013, Pauline moved to St. John’s retirement community where she remained until her passing.

Pauline is survived by her three daughters, Nicolene (Dennis), Norene (Thomas) and Nadine (Rick Cunningham); three grandsons, Stephen, Darin (Tricia) and Brett (Kristina); along with five great-granddaughters and two great-great-granddaughters.

The family sends special thanks to the kind caregivers at St. John's.

Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family recommends outdoor adventures, long talks over good coffee, and warm hugs and big kisses to those you love.

Arrangements are by Cremation and Funeral Gallery. Condolences can be sent through cfgbillings.com through “Our Families.”
