Calvin Thales Alvord was born Jan. 29, 1821, and died Dec. 25, 1894. He was the eldest of a family of six children born to Horace and Harriet Hamilton Alvord, all of whom are now dead. He was born in Wilmington on the Alvord homestead, which has been occupied in a direct line of the family for over 150 years. His entire life has been spent in town and his death removes another of the old residents—only a few remaining. He was married to Catherine E. Crosby March 22, 1848. Of this union were born five children, four of whom are now living. The mother died Feb. 17, 1874. In 1877 Mr. Alvord was married to Mrs. Harriet J. Gorham, who survives him. He had a shock about six years ago and he has gradually failed from that time, death coming at last as a result of the breaking down of the nervous system. Mr. Alvord all through his active life was a man remarkably well informed upon matters of general interest. He was an excellent farmer and took a great interest In the agricultural fairs, was one of the original corporators of the local savings bank, and at various times has held different town offices, discharging the duties thereof in a satisfactory manner. He was a member of the Congregational society and was clerk of the same for a number of years. The funeral occurs today at his late residence, Rev. W. A. Estabrook attending.
