LIEUT. FERGUSON DIES AT FT. SILL
The following article appeared in the Oklahoma City Times of Saturday, Jan. 18: Lieutenant Tom Ferguson, jr., died at Post Field, Fort Sill, Okla., this morning of pneumonia, following an attack of influenza.
Lieutenant Ferguson, who was a son of former Governor Tom Ferguson of Watonga, entered the second officers training camp, was commissioned and detailed to the aviation branch of the service. He won his wings at the Post Field camp. He was 24 years old. He was stricken with influenza six weeks ago, convalesced and was attacked with pneumonia. For a time his life was despaired of, but recent word from Post Field had been to the effect that he had passed the crisis.
Young Ferguson formerly was a reporter on the staff of The Daily Oklahoman and The Oklahoma City Times.
This sad news has more than a passing interest to many people in Caddo county. It was a young lady living in Anadarko and filling the important position of county home demonstrator, whom Lieutenant Ferguson wooed and won. In the Caddo County Marriage License Record of July 10, 1918, is preserved this history: Tom Ferguson, 27, Watonga, Okla., now living at Fort Sill, Okla.; Miss Bertha Holcomb, 22, Anadarko. (Married at Anadarko, July 10, by Rev.L.L. Brannon.)
Mrs. Ferguson, at the time of receiving the appointment of county home demonstrator, was living at Hydro, as we recall it.
