John Henry Hess, an oiler on the Steamer Hydro of the Kelley Island Lime and Transport Co. fleet, died suddenly at 4:35 p. m. Thursday as the boat was coming into Sandusky from Vermilion with a load of sand.
Upon reaching port Coroner E. C. Wiegand was called and he said that death was due to natural causes, being brought about by a heart attack. Mr. Hess was off duty during the afternoon, and about 1:30 p. m. complained of a pain in his chest and died three hours later. He was aged 64 years, 10 months and three days and had been a resident of Sandusky 18 years.
Surviving are his widow, Margaret Hess; two sons, Fred, Cleveland, and Albert, Sandusky; three daughters, Mrs. Emil Andres, Mrs. Lillian Scherer and Mrs. M.H. McGookey, all of Sandusky; two stepsons, Albert Winkle, Camp Shelby, Miss., and Walter Winkle, Cleveland; five step-daughters, Mrs. Lucille Wieber, at home; Mrs. Lester Fackler, Cleveland; Mrs. Frank Sykes, Detroit; Mrs. George Murray, Lorain, and Mrs. Larry Monak, Lakeside and 10 grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Keller Funeral Home and late this afternoon returned to the residence, 506 E. Adams St, where friends may call, and where funeral services are to be Monday at 3 p. m., Dr. T. J. C. Stellhorn, officiating. Burial in Oakland Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lester Fackler, Mike McGookey, Albert and Walter Winkle, Emil Andres and Larry Monack.
