Clyde Raymond Hilton -- August 31, 1920 – July 31, 2019

Stayton – Clyde died July 31, 2019 in Stayton, one-month shy of his 99th birthday. He was born August 31, 1920 to Charles and Ella (Mauer) Hilton in Farnam, NE and was very proud of his Nebraska heritage, travelling back as often as possible to visit with family and friends.

Clyde moved to West Stayton in 1937 with his parents and brothers. He soon met his bride to be Alice Davenport in Aumsville. Clyde then moved to Grants Pass where he graduated high school in 1938, playing football and baseball, lettering in each sport. Clyde returned to West Stayton to continue his courtship with Alice. Later returning to Grants Pass where he married Alice on, May 11, 1941. They had their first son, Doug in Grants Pass before heading back to West Stayton to become farmers. Together they raised pole beans, corn, and blackberries and later son, Danny was born.
Clyde enjoyed the outdoors including deer hunting with his family. He and buddy Gene would go to Summer Lake goose hunting every chance they got.

Every Spring Clyde and Alice went to Arizona to watch Spring baseball training, especially for the Seattle Mariners.
June meant going to Weiser, ID to attend the National Old-Time fiddlers contest as Clyde was an avid music lover being an amazing harmonica player himself.
He and Alice were members of Stayton First Baptist Church which became Foothills Church for over 70 years. His faith was very important to him.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ella, wife Alice, brothers Cyril, Leon, and Boyd, and sons Doug and Danny. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Bertha Hilton, 5 grandchildren, and several great and great-great grandchildren.

Celebration of Life will be Saturday, August 17th, 2019 at 2:00pm at the Foothills Church in Stayton. The family wishes to thank Elmcroft Senior Living for all their amazing care and love they gave Clyde during his residency. We also want to thank Willamette Valley Hospice for their tender loving care they provided during his final months.
Contributions can be made to the Union Gospel Mission or Willamette Valley Hospice. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
