DURHAM -- Mrs. Alice Mabel DeLap, 73 went to join her Lord on Thursday, March 6, 2003, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. DeLap lived at JFK Towers, 3600 N. Alice Mabel Mott was born on November 27, 1929 to the late Mabel Mae Canfield Mott and Edward Ebenezer Mott in Shelbyville, MO.
Her 8 brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Alice married Air Force Sgt. William James DeLap on March 15, 1947. He passed away in 1972.
Survivors are her son; Vincent, special son Daniel Compton of Gastonia, as well as special daughter; Jackie Tate and special sister; Jo Johnson of Durham. She is also survived by a large extended family of friends at JFK Towers,Treyburn and most especially her church, the Salvation Army in Durham.
Alice was a strong soldier for the Salvation Army, serving 40 faithful years as a teacher, member and volunteer. Pained and weakened in body by childhood polio, she was strong and shining in spirit and love. Her belief and love of the Lord guided her and influenced the many with whom she came in contact through the years. Whether from the joy of her teddy bear collection, the artistry of her crocheted dolls, or from sharing the love of the Lord. She will be missed by all who knew her.
There will be a celebration of Alice's life at JFK Towers and the Salvation Army to be announced at a future date.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that gifts be made to the Salvation Army, Durham Corp, PO Box 1330, Durham, NC 27701 or the Myers Park Baptist Church, Music Department, 1900 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28011.
