Gerald "Jerry" Dale DeBoer, age 76, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at his home in Grand Rapids, MI, surrounded by his loving family, after a short battle with cancer. He was born to Bernard and Elizabeth DeBoer on December 21, 1937 in Grand Rapids, MI. Jerry was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Jerry was a long-time member of St. Alphonsus Church. Jerry had a loving, caring heart and his wife and family were his greatest joy. He never knew a stranger, made friends everywhere he went. Jerry had a great love for Notre Dame. Jerry also loved cooking; no one was without salsa every fall. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews and niece. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, 3 children and 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 brothers and 1 sister, ; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 26 from 10 AM - 12 PM prior to funeral Mass at 12 PM at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 224 Carrier St. NE in Grand Rapids, MI. Jerry's family would like to thank Hospice of Grand Rapids for the loving, compassionate care, especially his nurse, Holly McKay (she could get Jerry to do anything). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Grand Rapids or St. Alphonsus Church.
