Douglas was born in McPherson, Kansas on October 28, 1944, son of Edna C. (Nielsen) and Haven John "Hap" Kubin. He attended Centerview Country School and graduated from McPherson High School in 1962; then attended McPherson College, and Kansas State University.
Doug worked for Certainteed Corporation, McPherson and Waco, TX, 1967 until 1977; then he started working for Davis Water and Waste Industries in Thomasville, Georgia. In 1985 Doug returned to McPherson working for American Maplan and continued until he retired.
Doug was a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge 502, Elk's Club, McPherson, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents and survived by a host of friends.
