Daughter and wife of Union veterans.

Catharine Emeline Cole, known as Emma, was a daughter of Nancy Jane (née Blakely) and Thompson Cole, born in 1857 in Greene County, Ohio. The Cole family moved by 1860 to Hamilton County, in southern Illinois, and then to East Bend Township, Champaign County, Illinois. Emma was 5 years old when her father enlisted in 1862 for 3 years' service and mustered in the 125th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry. She was 6½ when he died in 1864, soon after being discharged for disability. By 1870, Nancy J. Cole was living among her relations in Fayette County, Ohio, along with three of her children. Emma was enumerated in 1870 as "Martha," age 13.

"Catherine Emeline Cole" and Adam Bedinger were married on 18 January 1874 in Fayette County, Ohio. Because the bride was under age 18 (17 years and nearly 5 months), the bride's mother consented to the marriage. The couple farmed in Darke County, Ohio, and became the parents of six children (four daughters lived to maturity). Adam Bedinger died in 1904 at the age of about 53.

Mrs. Emma "Bidinger" and Mr. William Perry Brock were married on 24 December 1907 in Darke County, Ohio. He was a retired farmer, age 65, widowed, and a veteran. In the Civil War, he was a private in the 110th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The couple lived in Rossburg, Darke County. He died in 1919 at the age of 77; struck and killed by an automobile. Emma, who filed for a veteran's widow's pension, continued to reside in Rossburg until her death in 1938.
