Gordon K Chandler, Park Director, Dies. 53, groundskeeper at Routzahn County Park, for the last three years, died early Friday evening after he suffered a heart seizure at the park.
Funeral services ere held Sunday, evening in the Wood Chapel with Earl E Harris, Christian Science reader, officiating. Organ selections were played by Mrs. R.S. Lee.
Cremation at Atascadero followed the services. Many friends attended the rites and there were many beautiful floral tributes.
Gordon Chandler was born February 20, 1904, in St Louis Missouri and lived in southern California for a number of years. He was married to Miss Amy Quartermaine on January 4, 1931, in Alhambra.
In 1943, Mr. and Mrs. Chandler and family went to Skagway, Alaska, where he was manager of a market for seven years. The family returned her in 1948 and a year later Mr. and Mrs. Chandler returned to Skagway and in 1951 returned to Arroyo Grande where they since lived.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Skagway and of the Independent Order of Foresters of SLO. He was a member of the Arroyo Grande Fire Department for several years.
Besides his widow, Mrs. Amy Chandler of Arroyo Grande, survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Sidney Fleisman (Barbara), of Santa Barbara; a son Alfred Chandler, US Air Force, Covina; his mother, Mrs. Angie M Davis of Arroyo Grande; four grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Epp of SLO, four brothers, Philip Chandler of Arroyo Grande; Robert A Chandler, Sacramento; John S Chandler, Santa Maria and Willard M Chandler of Battle Creek, Michigan and other relatives.
Those from out of town, who came form the funeral were; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Epp of SLO, Mr. and Mrs, Robert Chandler of Sacramento; Mr. and Mrs. John Chandler and daughter, Judith of Santa Maria; Willard Chandler of Michigan; Alfred Quartermaine, of South San Gabriel; Mr. and Mrs. D.S. Quartermaine, Mr. and Mrs. K.L. Martin of El Montel, Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Green and two children of West Covina; Mrs. Grace Stanley of Redlands.
