James Turner Tyler, born July 9, 1892 in Williamson County, Tennessee, was the son of John Wilson Tyler (1848–1909) and his 2nd wife Nancy (Henson) Tyler (ca 1855– ), whom he married in 1889.

He had been married several times but was later divorced. He had lived in Nashville since about 1924.

A member of Freeland Baptist Church, James was a checker at Phillips & Buttorff Manufacturing Company. Living at 411 Madison Street, he was 61 years old when he was crossing Jefferson Street about 50 feet east of 5th when he was struck by a car on January 25, 1954. He was carrying 3-year-old Larry Brazzell, who was thrown to safety, but James was knocked 30 feet by the impact and by the time he was taken to Nashville General Hospital, he was DOA.

Survivors included his son William J Tyler, step-daughter Mrs George L Bennett, sister Mrs Susie Henson, brother Edward F Tyler, half-sisters Mrs Victoria Odom and Mrs Margaret Estes and seven grandchildren, all in Nashville.

Funeral Services were held on January 27th at Freeland Baptist Church, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.

Much of the above is from his Death Certificate, with William J Tyler as the informant. Additional information is from his published obituary in THE TENNESSEAN on January 26, 1954.
