Irene F. Greene, age 91, a former Manitowoc resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17,2017 at her daughter Mary's home in Madison.
Irene was born on November 27,1925 in Racine,WI, and was raised in Sturgeon Bay,WI, the daughter of the late Edmond and Jennie Mary (Mero) Horner. She was a graduate of Sevastopol High School with the class of 1943. Irene attended the University of Wisconsin from 1944 until 1947, then Lakeshore Technical College, and later graduated from Silver Lake College with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration - Management in 1982. On July 14,1956 she married Hollis J. Greene at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on April 11,1989. Irene was a certified Professional Secretary since 1978 and worked for various places such as St. Mary's Home, The Red Cross and Silver Lake College. She was a member of Theta Phi Alpha - a Catholic Sorority, the Holy Innocence Secular Franciscan Order, Sera Club of Manitowoc County, St Francis of Assisi Pro Life, Wisconsin Right to Life, St. Clare Society, Our Lady of Fatima Society and the Professional Secretaries International.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in- law: Patricia and Louis Schram, Manitowoc, Mary Foht and Timothy Foht,Madison, Jennie Greene,Manitowoc; ten grandchildren: Tanya,Margaret,Don Jr, Bill, Heidi, Jackie,Daryl,Ryan,Elijah and William; and nine great grandchildren. Nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law; Sharon and Donald Uttenweiler; a step son: Ronald Greene; two brothers and two sisters-in-law: Edmund and Grace Homer Jr. and Robert and Irene Homer; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Stanley and Jane Greene.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. (Noon) on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo (1121 North 14th Street) Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev Dave Pleier with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 7:00 p.m. The visitation will continue on Wednesday, November 22,2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. (Noon).
