Ruth was born February 1, 1936, in Morrison, IL, to Rensie and Ella (Housenga) Geerts. She was educated in the Morrison grade schools and graduated from Morrison High School in 1954. She married Bruce J. Wiersema on September 18, 1971 in Morrison. Ruth was employed with General Electric Co. of Morrison for 42 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton, and was active in the church's Missionary Circle, Willing Workers and the choir. She was a member of the G.E.M. Club, the Hilltoppers Club and the Fulton Women's Service Club, and volunteered for the Fulton Food Pantry and the Senior Citizen's Bus.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce; one sister, Clara (Mrs. Orville) Goodenough of Morrison; two brothers, Donald (Audrey) Geerts and Larry (Jean) Geerts, both of Morrison; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Vera Geerts of Rockton, IL.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Geerts.
Funeral service was held Saturday, July 16, 2005 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Rev. Scott Stephan, Pastor of Second Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, officiating.
Visitation was prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the Fulton Township Cemetery – Fulton, IL
