Ida Marie Bush, 83, of Newport (Lincoln Co.) died July 17, 2002.
She was born July 17, 1919 in Kansas City, MO to Ida R. and William A. Cole.
She grew up and attended school in Kansas City, MO and graduated from Kansas City Teachers College in 1940 with a degree in education.
She married Biron Bush July 12, 1940. Because married women were not allowed to be teachers at that time, she accepted a position with the Hallmark Greeting Card Company. During World War II, she worked in a government office.
Her husband became a pastor and she dedicated herself to performing the duties of a pastor's wife. They ministered in Cosby, Independence, Harrisonville, Kansas City and Raytown, MO where she led singing, teaching and women's organizations within the church.
In 1959, she began teaching in public schools in Raymore, MO and in 1962, she began teaching at Chapel School in Raytown, MO. She participated in the development of Pittman Middle School in Raytown, where she taught until her retirement in 1985.
She moved to Newport with her husband in 2000 and resided at the Oceanview Retirement and Assisted Living Residence.
Survivors include her husband, Biron; a daughter, Billie Joan Smith of Toledo; four grandchildren, Rachel Smith of Olympia, Washington, Stacy Smith and Rex Smith both of Yachats, and Ian Smith of Eugene; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services held at Bateman Funeral Home on July 20. Burial will be at the Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Floral Hills Funeral Home in Missouri, and a graveside service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday.
