US Congressman, Senator. Elected to represent CT as an at-large delegate in the House of Representatives,serving from 1795 to 1801. Elected to the US Senate from Connecticut to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator Uriah Tracy, serving from 1807 to 1813. Served as Mayor of Hartford from 1812 to 1815, and as Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut from 1813 to 1815.
