Director of the Bank of England in 1901 and was Governor of the Bank of England 1911-1913. In 1907 he married Lilian Seymour Chamberlain ( 1864-1949). He was the uncle of Horace de Vere Cole from whom he'd purchased West Woodhay House and is buried next to him.
