LYNNE RASMUSSEN
(1947 - 2007)

Lynne Ellestad Rasmussen, age 59, of Key West, Fla., died on Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, from cervical cancer.

She was born in Manitowoc, on April 26, 1947. the much-loved first child of Orvin and Ora Mae (Christianson) Ellestad. She was proud to welcome her baby sister: Kyle ("Junior") in 1953, and a surprise sister: Dawn ("The Kid") in 1965, the same year Lynne graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. Lynne was an excellent student and an independent person from early on, and loved her college days at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she earned her undergraduate degree in journalism and later her law degree. Lynne was admitted to the State Bar in 1976, and worked as a defense attorney and as an administrative law judge in Madison.

Lynne married her high school sweetheart: Larry W. Rasmussen Jr. on Dec. 27, 1968. They were avid bridge players and enjoyed having small groups of friends over for long nights of card games and political debates. They divorced in 1976, but remained good friends. That year Lynne also took on guardianship of her youngest sister, after their parents died unexpectedly. Lynne married Doug Fellenz on May 23, 1980. After a wonderful vacation in Key West, they left behind the frozen tundra of Wisconsin for the warmth and beauty of Florida and made Key West their home. Although they later divorced, they too remained friends.

Lynne loved the laid-back atmosphere, tropical weather, and colorful people of Key West. She was proud to be a "southernmost fan" of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers. She worked for the Key West Citizen for several years, and for the past 13 years, had enjoyed her job at Curry Printing. Lynne was a petite, feisty woman who loved her family and friends, and the parade of cats that lived near her home. She followed sports and politics closely: a self-described "news junkie" Who could (and did) expand on any topic with knowledge and humor. She was a true free spirit.

She will he greatly missed by her sister: Kyle (Ron) Rogers of Madison, and her sister: Dawn (Dale) Riemer of DeForest: her ex-husbands: Larry (Anna) Rasmussen of New Jersey, and Doug Fellenz of Davey, Fla.: nephew: Brett Rogers of Seattle, Wash.; niece: Sarah Rogers of West Bend; and nieces: Cammi and Kyra Riemer of DeForest. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and her beloved dog, Spike.

There will be a private cremation and a memorial service in Madison at a later date.

Special thanks to Vicki and Scott Curry and Sue and Jim Schnable, for their many kindnesses, and to the staff of Hospice of the Florida Keys and the Key West Convalescent Center, for their excellent care and compassion throughout Lynne's illness.
