Gleed - Alva (Alvie) Tabor, 68, of Gleed, died Saturday February 22, 2003 in Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Alvie was born in Pyatt, Arkansas on August 13, 1934. He was a hard working and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. A kind hearted man who would help anyone anytime; quiet yet passionate about things he believed in, good natured and sensitive about others.
Alvie worked in the logging industry all his life until retirement in 1998. He worked for Webb Logging from 1956 to 1968 and Jim Layman from 1969 to 1998. He was an expert road builder. He loved camping and fishing. He attended all of Amy and Ali's soccer and basketball games since they were six years old. The girls were the joy of his life. He had a smile on his face whenever they were with him.
He loved NASCAR and westerns on TV - especially Gunsmoke. He loved tinkering in his garage, helping someone fix or build something and this last year he made walking sticks with Steve. All those wonderful years, every night the last thing we said to each other was "I love you."
Alvie was baptized and joined the Naches Presbyterian Church ten years ago and worshiped regularly. He was the best husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by all that he touched.
What I have feared has come upon me, what I have dreaded has happened to me. I have no peace, no quietness. I have no rest, only turmoil. But have faith in Jesus and He will lead you through. Job 3:25
The top ten signs of the best grandpa in the world 10. He's always there for you. 9. He acts your age. 8. He tells you stories. 7. He carries your picture around. 6. He brags about you. 5. He's your biggest fan. 4. He thinks you can't do any wrong. 3. He spoils you rotten. 2. He gives you great big hugs. 1. He loves you to pieces.
He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Eileen Tabor of Gleed; son Rick and wife, Rhonda of Yakima, son Steve and wife Nancy of Naches; grandchildren, Amy and Ali Tabor of Naches, Andy Gunderson of Yakima, Jana Engler of Burlington, WA and Tim Gunderson currently serving in Kuwait with the United Sates Marine Corps; two great grandchildren, Brayden and Kaleb Engler of Burlington, a sister, Juanita Godfrey of Harrison, AR; his life long special friend, Konith Honeycutt of Lead Hill, AR as well as many other close friends.
