Genevieve C. Kraft

Genevieve Castle Kraft, a member of an early California family, died Friday, September 20, 1991, at the Villa Marin retirement residence in San Rafael, where she had lived for the last six years. Mrs. Kraft, who was 89, had been in declining health for some time.
She was born in San Francisco but spent most of her childhood in Merced, where her father, Curtis H. Castle, was a physician and also served a term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Her mother, Virginia Wills Castle, was a member of a family who came to Mariposa County during the Gold Rush.
Mrs. Kraft attended the University of Oregon, Mills College, the University of California, Berkeley, and San Jose State College, where she earned a teaching degree.
She had been a member of the Chi Omega sorority at Berkeley.
After college, she went to Taft in Kern County to teach in the local schools. There she met and married Warren H. Kraft, an engineer working in the oil fields.
They lived in Taft for many years and were active in numerous organizations. Both enjoyed horseback riding, and they participated in various equestrian events. During World War I, Mrs. Kraft volunteered with the Red Cross.
After the war, they moved to Palo Alto and later to Atherton.
The moved to Marin County about 25 years ago, living first in Novato and then in San Rafael. They spent about five years in Oakmont near Santa Rosa.
Mr. Kraft died about a year ago.
Mrs. Kraft is survived by her daughter, Mary Kraft Leydecker of San Rafael; her son, Peter C. Kraft of Grapevine, Texas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
