George M. Collodi, 83, of New Kensington, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday (March 5, 2003) in the Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh.
He was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Butler, and lived in Creighton, East Deer, after he was married. However, he was a resident of Arnold and New Kensington for most of his life. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Army. He retired from Edgewater Steel Corp., Oakmont. Previously, he worked for the American Window Glass Co., Arnold. Mr. Collodi was a former member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, member and past governor of the Moose Lodge, where he received the Pilgrim of Merit Degree, and member of the Eagles, American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and the Seventh Street Sportsmen's Club, all in New Kensington. For about 20 years, he enjoyed daily visits to the patients at the former Citizens General Hospital, New Kensington, and weekly visits to patients at Belair Health and Rehabilitation Center, Lower Burrell. Survivors include a son, Gene Collodi of Lower Burrell; and a brother, Roland Collodi of New Kensington. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Kristen Collodi of Arnold and Kevin Collodi of Lower Burrell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie George Collodi; his parents, Eugenio and Caroline Ansani Collodi; three brothers, Emil, Oscar, and Henry "Rico" Collodi; and three sisters, Fosca Pampaloni, Bruna Balsera, and Beatrice Carvagio. There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to Forbes Hospice, 6655 Frankstown Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15206. Arrangements are being handled by the FRANK F. GIGLER FUNERAL HOME, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell.
