Eva Marie Farrar, 77, of Broadus, an incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandma, sister, and friend passed away on the morning of Tuesday, August 27, 2019.

She was always known as Marie. Although her passing was sudden, her beloved daughter and son-in-law were with her in her final moments.

Marie was dearly loved by all those who knew her. Eva Marie Grant was born to Charley and Nellie (Taylor) Grant on September 24, 1941, in Broadus, Montana. Marie was the fifth of nine children. They didn’t have much, but she grew up in a loving family full of laughter. Marie was very close to her siblings and to her, family was everything.

On March 31, 1963, Marie married Leo Farrar. Marie and Leo, along with their daughter, Donna, lived all over Montana in Circle, Moore, Seeley Lake, Chester, and Broadus. They even briefly lived in San Jose, California, along with Greybull and Meeteetse, Wyoming.

Marie loved spending time with her family and dear friends. She was always there for graduations, weddings, birthday parties, etc. Throughout her life, she bowled on various teams made up of her sisters, nieces, and friends. She really enjoyed this time spent traveling and having fun with her league. One year, they even beat out 269 other teams throughout the state to win the championship. She loved growing flowers and gardening. She crocheted beautiful blankets. In the summer, she always had a jug of sun tea brewing away on a sunny rock.

Marie was a woman of true Montana grit. She camped, fished, hunted, and never backed down from a task that needed to be done. The biggest deer she ever got had an antler spread of 33 and a half inches. During her life she worked as a waitress, wire-tender, grocery checker, and a sheriff’s dispatcher. For her last job, Marie spent many years working at the Corner Store. She loved chatting with those who came by, whether an old friend or a stranger passing through town. She was a bright spot of joy for anyone who had the pleasure of crossing her path.

Marie really loved sitting at her kitchen table doing her crossword puzzle books and gazing out her window watching the birds, deer, squirrels, and whatever else wandered through her yard. Later in life, she also really enjoyed keeping up with friends and family on Facebook.

Marie is survived by her daughter: Donna (Tim) Gottsch of Bozeman; step-daughter Theresa Farrar of Great Falls; 6 grandchildren, Kristina (Jacob) Dolan, Misti Gottsch, Levi (Montana) Gottsch, Matthew (Erica) Farrar, Talana Melton, and Emily Carlson; and ten great-grandchildren; her brothers Cliff of Broadus and Bill (Glenda) of Ashland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; her brothers James, Willard, and Gene; and her sisters, Esther, Nellie, and Kay.

Marie will be missed greatly by all who knew her. Most of all, we will miss her unwavering patience, her beautiful smile, her selfless spirit, and her love.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Bible Church in Broadus.

Inurnment will take place at a later date in the family plot at the Valley View Cemetery.
