She was born on April 16, 1934 in Wellborn, Texas to Robert Richardson, Sr. and Viola Scott Richardson. At an early age Nettie was baptized in Galilee Baptist Church under Reverend R.W. Wheaton. She later joined Lee Chapel UMC. After graduating from E.A. Kemp High School in 1951 Nettie joined the Army (WAC) for two years. After serving her country, she attended and graduated in all branches of beauty culture at Pora Beauty College. Being a Beautician was one of her passions that she did so very well.
Nettie married John Robert Clay in 1954, and they joined the Church of Living God. During their 53 years of marriage, John and Nettie always worked side by side as a team. They owned several businesses including a beauty shop, a restaurant and a shoe shop in Bryan. After John's death in 2007, Nettie returned to her home church, Lee Chapel UMC, where remained a faithful member until her passing.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, four sisters and a brother. She leaves behind to cherish her memories two sisters, Meredith Brown (Ira Lee) of Houston and Nancy Harris of Bryan; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends.
