James H. Knef, 83, of Iselin died on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the JFK Medical Center in Edison surrounded by his family.

Born in Newark he had lived in Maplewood before moving to Iselin in 1961. He was a communicant of St. Cecelia’s RC Church in Iselin. Jim was a simple man whose wealth was defined not by money, but by love. He was a diehard NY Giants and NY Yankees fan. He rarely complained, never spoke bad about anyone, he was sweet and incredibly funny. He told the same corny jokes over and over again. He loved animals, jelly donuts and ice cream sundaes. Mostly though, he loved his family, and his family loved him. He will always be remembered for his radiant smile, vivacious personality, incredible sense of humor and his willingness to help anyone in need. His life made a lasting impression on all those who crossed his path.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Beverly; 4 children, Lisa Trosky & her husband Doug of Point Pleasant, James & his wife Maryann of Dayton, Steven & his fiancée Karyn O’Brien of Iselin, & Michael & his wife Valarie of Colonia; 8 grandchildren, Douglas Trosky & his wife Dominique, Christie Giambalvo & her husband Richard, Caitlin Trosky & her fiancé Mark Strain, Erica, Amanda, Michael, Tara, & Lauren; 3 great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Carter, & Madison; a brother, Andrew Knef & his wife Georgia of Lakewood; and many nieces & nephews.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 9:30 am from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 1225 Green St. & Cooper Ave, Iselin, followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Cecelia’s RC Church in Iselin. Cremation will be private.
