She grew up in Washington D.C. and Woods Mill in Nelson Co. She went to elementary school in Nelson Co, attended E.C. Glass High School and was a graduate of Phillips Business College. She was retired from Nationwide Insurance regional office with 34 years of service. Nancy was an active and dedicated member of Timberlake United Methodist Church where she was the coordinator of the Lambs Wool sweater mission for many years, providing handmade sweaters to needy children all over the world. From 1997-2018, the Lambs Wool mission provided 20,895 sweaters. She also supported many other missions.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Sisto Astroth, Jr.
Nancy is survived by her three children, Kara Moore Schmitt and husband, Milton, of Forest, Michael Thomas Moore and wife, Patty, of Lynchburg, and Donald Wayne Moore and wife, Joan, of Williamsburg; her sister, Shirley Astroth Hackett of Scottsville; eight grandchildren, Michael Troy Schmitt, Mark Christian Schmitt, Kevin Knight Schmitt, Jordan Knight Moore, Austin Gray Moore, Kathryn Moore Branch, Chastity Craig Huffman, and Edward Lynn Dawson; 18 great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Kathleen Astroth of Lakeland, Florida and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to sincerely thank Centra Hospice staff for the loving, professional care they provided during Nancy’s illness.
A celebration of Nancy’s life and faith will be held Monday, June 17 at 10 AM at Timberlake United Methodist Church with Pastor Brad McMullen and Estelle Holt officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 – 7:30 PM at the church. Those wishing to make memorial contributions, please consider the Food Mission at Timberlake United Methodist Church.
