Southern Nevada lost a real treasure Wednesday, November 3, 2004, when Dennis Eugene "Denny" Selleck, 72, passed away after a year-long battle with cancer.
Born July 5, 1932, in Monrovia, California, Denny and his wife, Wauna, journeyed to Southern Nevada in 1958. The colorful and outgoing Selleck quickly blended into Southern Nevada, where he became friends with everyone from gas station attendants to hunting and fishing enthusiasts and major politicians.
A former POW in Korea where he served in the United States Army, he cherished every day of his life.
Respected for his expertise, Denny was appointed to key positions by political experts like Governor Bob Miller and Senator Richard Bryan to the Nevada Department of Wildlife, the Natural Resources Advisory Board and the State Multiple Use Advisory Committee on Federal Lands. A former president and Board of Director of SNORE.
He was among the pioneers of racing and was one of the founding members of the International Kart Federation. He was also a founding officer of the Nevada Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and founded the W H I N.
Preceded in death by his wife, Wauna, of fifty years in July.
Survivors include daughters, Denise (Terry) Davis, Donna Nyrehn; sons, David (Kathie), Darryl (Tamra), and Daniel (Karen); twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be at 11 am Monday, November 8, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S Eastern Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The City of Hope, Nathan Adelson Hospice, or Ducks Unlimited.
