Sherman Wayne Hobbs, 91, a retired Mechanical Engineer, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, September 4, 2019.

Funeral is 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2019, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Bolivar Cemetery in Sanger. Family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pastor Dan Sparkman will officiate.

Sherman was born October 3, 1927 to Franklin Lee and Clara (Thornton) Hobbs in Poolville, Texas. He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army, retiring after 20 years during which he served in 3 wars: World War II, Korean and Vietnam War. Sherman went to college 2 years, and then worked at several jobs, last at Poco Graphite in Decatur for 15 years before retiring. He was a member of Masonic/Shriners for 50 plus years. Sherman was a Master Mason in Bridgeport # 587 and Alvord # 512, Worth Commandery #19 Nights Temple Fort Worth, Denton Commandery #45, Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Texas, Grand Council Royal and Select Masters of Texas Scottish Rite of Freemasonry 33 degree, order of the Eastern Star Chico for 50 plus years and Past Patron 8 times. He was member of the Hopewell Baptist Church in Alvord, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara (Thornton) and Frank Leroy Hobbs; his first wife, Melba Perkins Hobbs; his sister Tressie Deathrage; his brothers, George Hobbs, Billy Roy Hobbs, Acie Hobbs, and Herman Buford Hobbs; his granddaughter, Andrya Hobbs.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 34 years, Kathy Hobbs of Decatur; his 2 brothers, Randall Hobbs, and Lonnie Hobbs; his 3 sisters, Marie Quinn, Nellie McMorris, and Christene Jobe; his 2 sons, Everett Wayne Hobbs and wife Colleen, and John Hobbs; his 4 grandchildren, Amanda, Jarrett, and Emily Hobbs, and Christopher Dunn; his 4 great-grandchildren; his stepsons, Victor W. Freeman and wife Wanda, and Donald Wayne Freeman and wife Nancy; his stepdaughter, Lisa Freeman Duty and husband Joe; his 4 step-grandchildren, MacKenzie Freeman, Ray Castro, Nathan Freeman, and Gabrielle Freeman; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Scottish Rite Hospital in the name of Sherman Wayne Hobbs.
