Mr. Hugh McGilton, who died at Redhill on October 3, was the eldest son of the
late Mr. John McGilton, of the Hermitage, near Houghton. He arrived in this
State with his parents when three years of age 66 years ago, and settled at Tea-
tree Gully for a short time, then removed to the Hermitage, where they carried
on farming and dairying for several years.

Subsequently he started farming on his own account at Redbanks, on the Light,
where he married a daughter of the late Mr. Charles Paterson, of Peachy Belt,
who survives him. He stayed there several years, then moved to the Onetree Hill
district for a short time, and later to the Hundred of Redhill. A few years ago he
sold out his farm, and had lived in the township since. He has left a family of
one son and three daughters— Mr. John McGilton, of Wentworth; Mrs. A. Fair-
bank, of Franklin Harbour; Mrs. Walter Button, of Redhill; and Miss Agnes Mc-
Gilton.
