MISSOULA Ethel A. Taylor of Missoula, died on July 10, 2005. Born Ethel Jane Allen on March 22, 1918, in Kenosha, Wis., she was one of eight siblings; five boys and three girls. She was raised in New Milford, Conn., and graduated from Pine Manor College in Massachusetts. During World War II, she served as a 1st Lt. in the United States Army and was stationed at Holleran General Hospital, a 3,000 bed facility on Staten Island. Ethel was one of two officers who went aboard the incoming troop ships from the European theater to assign the wounded to medical facilities.

Prior to the end of the war, she suffered a collapsed lung and received a medical discharge. She was sent to Arizona for the healthful climate and from there to Montana. On her first trip to Montana, she came to the 320 Dude Ranch in the Gallatin Valley, where she met the love of her life, Park Taylor. They married and ranched near Melrose, later moving to Billings, where she worked as the head of medical records at St. Vincent Hospital. During her 25 years at St. Vincent's, she went on to become vice-president in charge of professional services.

Ethel was the proud mother of two children, Anne Kay Taylor and James Park Taylor. After the death of her husband, Park, she moved to Missoula to become one of the most rabid Grizzly fans ever. She loved the Griz, and will be expecting another national championship from the football team this year. Ethel also loved dogs, horses and playing golf with her dear friend, Edie Marbut.

Ethel was preceded in death by her father, George; her mother, Alice; her stepmother, Catherine; her beloved husband, Park; her brothers, George, David, Richard and Charles; and her sisters, Marcia and Alice. She is survived by her brother, John Allen of Kenosha; her daughter, Anne and her husband, Dan Partridge and their children, Chad and Kelsey of Auburn, Wash.; her son, Jim and his wife, Barbara Morrison and their children, Will Taylor and Matt Taylor of Missoula; Cecily Whitworth of St. Paul, Minn.; Jocelyn Whitworth of Richmond, Va.; and stepson, Flint Taylor and his wife, Holly of Edgewood, N.M.

We will miss her brave spirit. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 15, at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Missoula. Cremation has taken place. The family suggests memorials be made to the Missoula Humane Society.

Malletta Family of Funeral Homes in Missoula is in charge of arrangements.
