OBITUARY.
The death occurred at Port Lincoln on Sunday of Mr. Edward Eyre Butterfield, father of the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Hon. T. Butterfield), at the age of 85 years. Mr. Butterfield was born at Islington, a suburb of London, on March 3 1839. He came to Victoria at the time of the gold rush in 1856, and followed the gold mining in Victoria and parts of New South Wales with varying success. In 1870 he married and settled down in the western districts of Victoria where he set up dairying pursuits. He lived there until about five years ago, when on the death of his beloved wife he came to Adelaide to reside with his son Hon. T. Butterfield. A few months ago he went for a trip to Port Lincoln to see his sons who live on Eyre Peninsula. He leaves a family of seven sons and one daughter. The sons by the first wife were the Hon. T. Butterfield and Messrs William Butterfield (of Tumby Bay), Harris Butterfield (Queensland) and Michael Butterfield (Warrnambool), and by the second wife Messrs. J.H. Butterfield (of Wudinna) and Edward and Patrick Butterfield (of Victoria) and Miss Butterfield (of Carrieton). The body was interred yesterday afternoon in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Port Lincoln.
