Mrs. Virginia Walcutt Gay, was a member of a Columbus pioneer family, and the widow of Harvey D. Gay. Virginia died early Friday morning from the effects of a fall at her Normandie hotel apartment. She was the daughter of John Macey and Muriel Brodrick Walcutt and a sister of General C. C. Walcutt, once Columbus mayor. She was married in 1855 to Harvey D. Gay who died in 1878. She was an extensive traveler, having visited most of the large cities of Europe. She was actively interested in charitable, educational and civic affairs. Burial was in her private mausoleum in Green Lawn Cemetery. Virginia is listed as owner of plot.
She donated money to start Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, Iowa.
