Illinois State Trooper, Rocco Vito Gragido, age 46, died as a result of injuries from a traffic accident. He was on his motorcycle, stopped at 63rd Street and Archer Avenue when he was struck by another driver who suffered a seizure. Instead of pressing the brake, she stepped on the gas pedal. The car drug Trooper Gragido, his motorcycle, hit several cars, a truck and finally went through the glass store window before coming to a stop. Trooper Gragido died en route to Berwyn Hospital, Berwyn.
Rocco served in World War I with the United States Naval Reserve Force. He enlisted July 5, 1918 and served at the rank of Landsman until his discharge, July 14, 1920.
On November 12, 1930, he joined the Illinois State Police and served the Chicago area as a motorcycle officer.
Rocco married Delisle Ann Becker on September 4, 1935. They made their home at 736 W. Taylor Street, Chicago and welcomed their daughter, Mary, March 27, 1939.
He was the son of Italian immigrants, Joseph and Maria (nee Guiseppa) Gragido.
Trooper Gragido was laid to rest Saturday, September 14, 1940 at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Proviso Township, Cook County, Illinois.
